This weekend marks one of The Current’s favorite summer traditions, The Current Goes to Duluth

Our first stop will be Bent Paddle Brewing, where Mike Novitzki and Jade will be joined by three Duluth artists. Nathan Holte and Alex Piazza of the Duluth band Àlamode join hosts Christa Lawler and Brooks Johnson to talk about the band’s debut album “Swell.”  

The pop/disco/dance/“slovakian folk” band is shaking things up around the Twin Ports, which has gotten really bluegrass centric.  

Three songs off the album “Swell” are available on Spotify. The record release show is Saturday, January 13 at The Rex Bar at Fitgers in Duluth.

One thing to consider when selecting a band name: Has it already been trademarked by a rock band with royal-meets-couture lineage? 

This was the lesson for local pop-funk band known now, suddenly, as Alamode. Before they were Alamode they were Playdate, and a recent cease and desist letter from a Los Angeles-based lawyer told them they were infringing on a trademark.
